Frequently Asked Questions
I heard that your adjustments don’t involve any manual manipulation of the spine. How then are they performed? To learn more please click any text highlighted in red.
We use a combination of techniques which include Activator, Applied Kinesiology, Cranial Adjusting, SOT, Cox Distraction and trigger point therapy. All of these techniques use directional pressure to the vertebrae or muscle rather than a quick, forceful manipulation where you would hear a ‘popping’ or ‘cracking’ sound. There is never any twisting of the head, neck or spine. Our adjustments are designed for people of all ages, including newborns and the elderly.
How long will it take for chiropractic to work?
Patient results vary depending upon many factors such as age, how long you’ve had your problem, your lifestyle habits, and your adherence to the doctor’s recommendations.
Once you go to the Chiropractor, do you have to go forever?
After patients get the relief they want, many choose corrective and wellness care to support the final stages of healing, as well as detect and resolve new problems before they become serious. How long you want to benefit from chiropractic care is up to you. As with periodic dental and eye exams, proper spinal alignment requires regular care.
Does insurance cover chiropractic?
Health Horizons’ Insurance Billing Department has 30 years of billing experience. We are available to answer questions you may have regarding your health insurance benefits, auto accident and worker’s compensation claims. Most insurance companies will cover a portion of chiropractic care, however each policy is different. All of our fees will be discussed with you, in detail, prior to starting care and incurring any costs. For those who are uninsured or have financial considerations, please inquire about our Preferred Chiropractic Doctor Program.
Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor (PCP)?
That depends on your specific health insurance coverage. Most insurance policies do not require a referral, however each plan is different. We can assist you with the details of your specific policy.
Do I have to have x-rays taken?
X-rays are taken based on your examination findings. Films of your spine assist us in determining subluxation patterns, contraindications to certain spinal adjustments, pre-existing conditions, the chronicity of your problem, and whether or not a referral outside the office is necessary.
How are chiropractors different from medical doctors?
Doctors of Chiropractic look for the cause of ill health rather than treating symptoms with prescription drugs and surgery. They take a natural, hands-on healing approach, focusing on body alignment and how it relates to function. Chiropractic education centers on creating health, not treating disease, therefore many Doctors of Chiropractic will also evaluate lifestyle issues including nutrition, exercise, and stress.
